Acoustic Ceiling Clouds

Acoustic ceiling clouds are independently suspended PET felt panels and 3D grid modules that introduce sound-absorbing surfaces above occupied areas. With open space around each unit, they create defined overhead features for offices, meeting rooms, reception areas, learning spaces and restaurants. Choose flat panels for a clean silhouette or interlocking grid clouds for greater visual depth.

Feltlite offers five designs: 3D grid, shaped, rectangular, triangular and circular acoustic clouds. Compare their dimensions, PET thicknesses and suspension arrangements, then discuss custom sizes and colors for your project. Share your preferred model, quantity and ceiling conditions to start a product enquiry. All five designs are supplied without light fittings.

3D Grid Acoustic Clouds

Interlocking curved PET profiles form an independent 3D grid acoustic cloud with open space around its perimeter. The crossing profiles create visible depth and a cellular pattern when viewed from below. Choose this construction for an overhead feature that reads as a separate module, then review its scale against the room and furniture.

The reference footprint is 1200 x 1200 mm, using 9 or 12 mm PET profiles. Confirm the finished module height and hanging level separately. Include the number of modules and ceiling fixing conditions when discussing the supply scope.

Shaped PET Acoustic Clouds

Shaped PET acoustic clouds use a flat horizontal panel with an organic, cloud-like outline. The rounded edges bring a softer visual character to learning areas and informal interiors. Use one panel as a small feature or repeat the outline in a group, with open gaps between the individual units.

The illustrated cloud shape is approximately 600 x 322 mm in 9 or 12 mm PET felt. This dimension refers to that particular outline. For another shape or size, send a sketch or reference image so the proposed profile can be reviewed.

Rectangular PET Acoustic Clouds

Rounded rectangular PET acoustic clouds suit repeated rows above workstations, shared tables or reception seating. Their straight sides relate to the furniture layout, while rounded corners soften the panel outline. Use a consistent arrangement or offset the units to suit different zones, keeping lighting positions coordinated with the open gaps.

The reference panel size is 1200 x 600 mm in 9 or 12 mm PET felt. Confirm the selected dimensions, color and quantity before ordering. Panel thickness and suspension drop are separate measurements; include the intended hanging level in the layout review.

Triangular PET Acoustic Clouds

Triangular PET acoustic clouds create angular ceiling patterns through repetition and changes in orientation. They offer a different geometric character from rounded or circular panels. Review how the triangle aligns with adjacent units and the room below, then confirm the intended support arrangement for the selected layout.

The reference triangle has a 520 mm base and 450 mm height, using 9 or 12 mm PET felt. These are panel dimensions rather than suspension measurements. Confirm the panel orientation, fixing method and quantity for the proposed arrangement.

CHOOSE YOUR STRUCTURE

Flat PET Panels or 3D Grid Acoustic Clouds?

Flat PET clouds use a horizontal panel to emphasize shape and color. A 3D grid cloud uses interlocking profiles to create visible depth within an independently suspended module. Compare the two constructions by their outline, edge appearance and relationship to the space below. For grid designs, check the overall module height separately from the PET material thickness.

3D GRID CLOUDS
LAYOUT IDEAS

Plan Your Suspended Acoustic Cloud Layout.

Plan suspended ceiling clouds around the activities and furniture below. A single group can define a shared table; repeated units create a visual rhythm, while staggered arrangements introduce different shapes or colors. Compare the three concepts in the same room, then identify unit positions, open gaps and hanging levels. The final arrangement also needs to accommodate lighting and other ceiling services.

3D Grid Acoustic Clouds - Single Focal Group

Create a focal point above the table

A single 3D grid acoustic cloud gives the meeting table a defined overhead feature. Its crossing PET profiles create open cells and visible depth. Center the module over the shared seating area, with clear ceiling space around its outline.

Start with the furniture footprint when choosing the module size and position. Consider how the grid will appear from the entrance and from seated positions around the table. This concentrated arrangement offers a clear starting point for a meeting room or a shared discussion area.

BEFORE YOU SPECIFY
Confirm the overall module dimensions and assembled height separately from the PET sheet thickness. Review the suspension drop, ceiling fixing conditions and nearby services before finalizing the position.

Rectangular Acoustic Clouds - Repeated Arrangement

Bring a consistent rhythm to the ceiling

Arrange rectangular acoustic cloud panels in repeated rows to follow the table or workstation layout below. Matching panel sizes and a consistent hanging level create a clear visual pattern. Open gaps keep each panel outline distinct.

Use the room’s main furniture lines to guide the panel orientation. In a longer space, the arrangement can continue above successive desk groups or shared tables. Coordinate the rows with separate lighting positions so the ceiling composition reads as one planned layout.

BEFORE YOU SPECIFY
Confirm panel dimensions, quantity and the intended gaps between units. Mark the row alignment and suspension level on the ceiling plan, then check for conflicts with lighting and other ceiling services.

Circular Acoustic Clouds - Staggered Composition

Compose a ceiling with circles of different sizes

Combine circular PET acoustic clouds in different diameters to create a less uniform arrangement above the shared table. Offset their positions so the larger and smaller circles form a balanced composition. A single felt color keeps the emphasis on size and placement.

Plan the suspended ceiling clouds as a group, then review each panel from the main room viewpoints. Keep clear gaps between the circles so their outlines remain readable. The illustrated layout uses three sizes; the final combination should reflect the furniture footprint and available ceiling space.

BEFORE YOU SPECIFY
Identify each panel’s diameter, position and hanging level. Confirm the suspension arrangement for every size and review clearances between adjacent panels. Perspective alone should not be used to judge spacing.

PROJECT CUSTOMIZATION

Custom Acoustic Clouds: Size, Shape And Color.

Discuss custom acoustic ceiling clouds around the selected product form, required dimensions and room palette. Start with a reference design and approximate quantity, then identify any changes to the outline or color arrangement. A sketch helps explain a new shape. Proposed sizes and construction need review before production, and a physical PET felt sample should guide final color approval.

Size & outline

Give the required length and width for a flat panel, or the footprint and intended depth for a 3D module. Mark any outline changes on a sketch. The proposed shape and dimensions need review for the selected construction.

Color & texture

Specify one color for a consistent ceiling feature or mark different colors on the layout. Compare the PET felt with nearby wall, floor and furniture finishes. Use a physical sample under project lighting before approving the final selection.

Find the right color for your acoustic clouds

Explore neutral shades for a subtle ceiling finish, or introduce brighter colors to highlight shared tables and gathering areas. A single color can bring consistency to repeated panels, while a coordinated palette can distinguish different zones within an open space.

Compare your shortlisted shades with nearby wall finishes and furniture. Consider how the clouds will look from below, particularly where daylight and artificial lighting meet.

Share your preferred colors

Include the FL color codes with your selected cloud design and estimated quantity when requesting a quote. For a mixed-color arrangement, indicate which color belongs to each panel or group.

*Color images are digitally reconstructed visual references. Screen appearance may differ from the supplied PET felt. Confirm availability and approve the final color using a physical sample.

MATERIAL & CONSTRUCTION

PET Felt Texture, Thickness And Panel Edges.

PET acoustic felt gives cloud panels a visible fiber texture and a matte surface. Its appearance changes with the viewing distance, edge profile and room lighting. Use the material close-up to examine the surface, then review a physical sample alongside the surrounding finishes. Check both the panel face and exposed cut edge under project lighting to assess texture and perceived color before final approval. The selected PET thickness describes the material itself, rather than the complete depth of a 3D grid cloud.

Blue PET Acoustic Felt Surface and Edge Detail

Visible fiber texture

Examine the felt surface at close range, then consider how it will read from below the ceiling. Fiber texture and reflected light influence the perceived color. A small screen image is useful for shortlisting, but the physical material should guide approval.

Panel edges and color

Suspended flat panels expose their edges as well as the underside. Review the cut edge with the selected outline and material thickness. For a 3D cloud, the repeated profile edges become part of the overall visual pattern.

ACOUSTIC CONSIDERATIONS

Acoustic Performance Depends On The Configuration.

Acoustic clouds absorb reflected sound within a room and help manage reverberation. Their contribution depends on the product construction, quantity and installed arrangement, together with the room finishes. When a project specifies acoustic performance, request evidence relevant to the proposed configuration. PET thickness alone does not establish an NRC rating, and room absorption should be distinguished from sound isolation between spaces.

Compare the tested specimen, material thickness and mounting method before using an acoustic value in a specification. Check the air gap, spacing and specimen area wherever these are recorded. Material-based results and results for a complete suspended arrangement should be identified clearly; one result should not be applied to every cloud design.

For a defined reverberation target, include room dimensions, principal surface finishes and the intended use in the acoustic review. Confirm which product-specific test documents are available. This page does not assign a universal NRC rating or prescribe one coverage percentage for every room.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Acoustic Ceiling Cloud FAQs.

Find answers to common questions about PET acoustic ceiling clouds, including product types, material thickness, lighting and suspension. These answers separate confirmed product information from details that depend on the project or quotation. Use them to narrow your selection, then send the chosen design and any unresolved requirements to Feltlite before finalizing the order.

What is the difference between acoustic clouds and baffles?

Acoustic clouds are independent horizontal panels or assemblies suspended below the ceiling with open space around each unit. Acoustic baffles use vertical elements, either individually or in repeated arrangements. Feltlite's clouds include flat PET panels and independent 3D grid modules. Select by construction and layout rather than assuming one category always provides better absorption.

Can a grid-shaped product be an acoustic cloud?

Yes. A grid-shaped assembly is an acoustic cloud when the complete module is suspended independently with open space around its perimeter. An interlocking grid arranged as a continuous ceiling field belongs to a different system category. Confirm the finished assembly and layout, because a close-up photograph alone may not show that distinction. Compare PET acoustic ceiling systems.

Do these acoustic clouds include light fixtures?

No. The five PET acoustic cloud designs on this page are supplied without light fixtures. Pendants, downlights and linear lights visible in application images are separate ceiling elements. Their positions and service requirements need coordination with the cloud arrangement; the images do not establish that lighting is included in the acoustic product supply.

Can I request a custom size or color?

Size and color customization can be discussed for the selected cloud design. Send the target dimensions, approximate quantity and preferred finish. For a new outline, include a sketch or reference image. The proposed shape, material and construction need review before production details are agreed; a physical sample should guide final color approval.

Does 9 or 12 mm describe the complete cloud height?

The 9 or 12 mm figure describes the PET material thickness. It does not describe the complete height of a 3D grid module. Overall module height depends on the profile shape, while suspension drop is the distance used to position the product below the structural ceiling. Confirm these measurements separately for the selected layout.

What ceiling coverage and air gap should I use?

Ceiling coverage and air gap must be selected for the room and product configuration. Consider room dimensions, existing finishes and the intended acoustic target. Review test information that matches the proposed product and mounting conditions where available. A visual layout concept does not establish a suitable coverage percentage, universal spacing rule or predicted reverberation time.

Are suspension accessories included?

Suspension accessories are subject to the agreed supply scope for the selected design. Ask the quotation to identify included cables and connection components, together with items supplied separately. Top fixings must suit the actual ceiling substrate and site requirements. Confirm assembly information and installation responsibilities before ordering rather than assuming a complete fixing kit is included.

Will acoustic clouds soundproof the room?

Acoustic clouds provide sound absorption within a room; they are not a sound-isolating ceiling assembly. They can help manage reflected sound and reverberation, but noise travelling between rooms requires a separate assessment of walls, floors, ceilings and other transmission paths. Do not use an absorption rating as a measure of sound isolation.

What do you need to prepare a quotation?

Share the preferred cloud design, approximate quantity, required dimensions or colors, and delivery country. Include sample needs and required technical documents if known. A ceiling plan or reference image helps explain a layout, but drawings are optional for an initial enquiry. You can start with a shortlisted design while the project details are still being developed.

Can I request PET felt swatches or a product sample?

Tell Feltlite which design, thickness and color you are considering, and what the sample needs to verify. A material swatch helps assess the finish; a finished panel or structure sample serves a different review. Sample format, availability, charges and shipping arrangements must be confirmed before proceeding.

What NRC rating do these acoustic ceiling clouds have?

This page does not state a single verified NRC rating for all five designs. Ask for available evidence corresponding to the selected product, material and mounting arrangement. If your specification requires an NRC value or another acoustic measure, identify the relevant standard and installation conditions in the enquiry.
